Week Two

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Lune who speaks up first this time.

"Good morning, good morning. You've done well to purge the corruption in the previous gateway - allow us to assist with the finishing touches. For the time being, it would appear as though we've been able to locate another. The land might appear a bit familiar to some however... I only advise you watch your step."

When Lune finishes, Sol chimes in from their place at Lune's side.

"The corruption is still out there, and we're going to do all that we can to find a way to contain it. But until then... stick close to others this week. Do your best to protect yourselves and look after each other. Okay?"

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

The only oddity is that throughout the week, in a noise that extends past the portal but seems to resound even through the village, there will be the occasional, resounding call of a war horn.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find ever-growing feelings of anxiety and nervousness dwelling within them the longer they are separated from one another. They will feel compelled to be very close to their partners at all times, and will be on edge if separated for more than an hour by the end of the week. Welcome to surprise codependence at its finest.

[... That's his partner, he needs to help. Also the growing unease in his chest is settled when they're nearby each other- what a... strange decision for the universe to make. But that's neither here nor there.]

Is there a way to reattach your leg?

[He says that, but he's also starting to climb up a tree.]

[globs]

You...

[ they, too, instantly feel a little better when he appears, which is weird. They also feel struck by the fact that he instantly starts climbing a tree to get their leg back, which is weirder, but. ]

I just have to glue it back on. It's fine. [ Cinnabar stares at him with a sort of conflicted expression. ] You don't have to get it for me...

I'll have an easier time getting it than you will.

[Since he has both of his legs attached at the moment.

It's really too late to stop Val, who's made it all the way to the branch.]

Do we have strong enough glue available?

[globs]

[ a sigh. Well, they might as well wait for him to finish, then. Really, this is better than them trying to haul all 1000 pounds of themself up that tree, so they shouldn't complain. Their back slides down the tree until they're in a sitting position at the base of it. ]

Lune gave me some.

[omegathree]

That's kind of him.

[He's not just going to let this leggy drop to the floor so he's undoing the knot that's keeping it attached to the branch.]

[globs]

[ valvatorez more like PALVATOREZ thanks for taking care of their leg. ]

I told him to give me some, [ Cinnabar adds. He's not that nice!! They still don't trust him. ] -- It's heavy.

[ their leg, that is. ]

[omegathree]

And he complied.

[Val is strong, even without his full demonic strength. But also it's a good idea to check exactly how heavy this thing is before he fully unties it from the branch.]

How heavy is it?

[globs]

I don't know... Heavy. Maybe almost as heavy as you.

[ Cinnabar has no idea if they use the same measurements as gems do here or what. Probably not. But they can at least give a rough estimate. ]

[omegathree]

[Val is much, much heavier than his skinny stick frame suggests. What a sturdy branch he's currently on, if it's holding up both him and the leggy.]

I'll lower this down as carefully as I can. Be ready for it.

[globs]

[ the branch may or may not be creaking ominously... Cinnabar's focused on their leg, so they don't notice. ]

I'm fine. Just do it.

[ they sort of... crawl over to get in position under the leg. They look embarrassed that they just had to do that, but they try to cover it up by looking mad, instead. ]

[omegathree]

Very well.

[Once they're in position Val undoes trap and it drops right where Cinnabar is.]

[globs]

[ this is a bit risky, but they hold up their arms to catch it, hoping that the cushion of the dirt on the forest floor combined with their slowing the momentum of its fall will be enough to keep either their fingers or their leg from breaking any further - and luck's on their side, because it doesn't. Once Cinnabar's confirmed nothing else has snapped off, they breathe out a sigh of relief. Good job, team. ]

Finally...

[omegathree]

[At least they haven't broken any more limbs. And even if they lost one today, it's not like it shattered into millions and millions of pieces.

Once that's done Val is just jumping right down from the tree, leaving a deep dent in the ground.]

[globs]

[ at least no one broke any limbs, it's true. They didn't know the bar was that low, but it is. Thanks, Minato.

They do notice the dent, and look up at him with some confusion. ]

You're heavy.

[omegathree]

[Despite how much of a skinny stick of a man Val is- he's dense.]

Yes, I am. Is that odd?

[globs]

[ he sure is dense ]

Yeah. You've got a soft, fleshy body like a human does, don't you?

[omegathree]

[In every single way.

He pauses and nods slowly.]

More or less.

[Because this humanoid body isn't exactly what Val is.]

[globs]

So why are you so much heavier than they are? Do you have more organs inside, or something?

[ their understanding of animal anatomy leaves much to be desired ]

[omegathree]

It's due to what I am. I can't transform while I'm here, but my true form is a dragon.

[globs]

Huh? You said you were a demon vampire the other day... Stop making up new words.

[ as they speak, they slowly get to their feet (or foot, rather) - it's a bit of a struggle, but they use their disembodied leg as a sort of cane to stay balanced this time. ]

[omegathree]

I'm all of those things.

Dragon isn't a made up word.

[He stands next to Cinnabar, but he also doesn't really... help. They seem to have it handled, more or less.]

[globs]

[ that's probably for the best. They'd flip out if he tried to touch them. ]

Well, I don't know what it is.

[ awkwardly hobbling forward with their leg cane back towards the gateway - and praying they don't fall into any other traps. ]

[omegathree]

I'll draw you a picture of what I look like once we're back.

[Walking forward, looking for ground hazards and hoping Cinnabar doesn't fall into any pit traps.]

[globs]

I don't really care.

[ stubbornly continuing to make their way back... so far, good on avoiding the traps. They'd just give up and go to sleep in a pitfall if they fell in one, at this point... ]

[omegathree]

[He doesn't really mind one way or another, but also he's gonna have to get Cinnabar out of a pitfall if they both end up in one.]
