Week Eight
9 in Competition

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find three large, swirling masses grey in color looming near the sakura tree. These swirls cannot be approached just yet, but seem to be locked and waiting for something more. Later in the day, if those in the village approach the third mass they will find themselves in a version of their home world. This world is completely void of people, but seems to be just as they last remember it. No darkness will be found in this world as well.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. They don't speak immediately, but wait for all to settle.

You got a plan for that yet? It's your kill, but I wouldn't suggest waiting until he's corrupted if it can be helped.

If the corruption can't possess its intended target, do we know if it'll try to take someone else at that moment, or...?

... That sounds like a question for the signs. I don't see why it would if we take care of things on our ends before it has a chance. But it'd be impossible to end this well if the darkness could swoop in and corrupt whoever we leave behind at the last fucking minute.

Shess is going to help. Even if I break, he has a good chance of surviving.

I have my ability, and I have my sword. I have a few items that might help, but otherwise...

[ he crosses his arms ]

I won't stop until one of us breaks.

[... CLOSES EYES!!!]

Don't get yourself broken, for fuck's sake. [GOD.] Are you waiting until the darkness corrupts him? Or is this just how you two assholes are?

Do you think I want to? I don't want to break anymore than any of you here, but I know his strength better than any of you. If anyone can break me, it's him. It would be foolish to go against him without acknowledging that.

[ thanks for pissing him off again, north! like he doesn't know what he's getting into. ]

I do want to finish it before he's corrupted, but we don't know when that will even be.

[IT'S HIS FAULT FOR BEING A FIGHTY WEIRDO.......... (no)]

So— What? You expect him to fight you to the death before he's corrupted? Even though he knows what's at stake here?

[ what does north even want from him ]

Why wouldn't I? He knows the importance of completing the mission. The only thing standing in the way right now is his need to protect Roxas.

[a mystery.]

... Then, he needs to understand that he's only making it worse for Roxas by protecting him. It's not like we have any items left to protect someone from the corruption.

I'd be more surprised if he doesn't know. But Mikazuki always has his own agenda, outside of the mission, and he'll do what it takes to accomplish it.

[ kara looks away, clearly frustrated, and his voice drains of anger. ]

...His plans usually work out better than this.

... He's an idiot.

[jiji........ she's so tired.]

But the two of them are vulnerable, now. Do you think that would extend to whatever items and skills we have left?

He can be.

[ he sighs and lets his arms drop ]

Probably. I'm not sure that I have anything that could help, though.

Ask around. I think Emma still has Undertow. And I'm sure a couple of us are still holding onto items that could help. [She shrugs.] We want to take them down as painlessly as possible. But that's not going to be possible if Mikazuki doesn't get out of our way.

I have a gem that could steal his soul, but I'm not sure how it would work on someone corrupted - probably not as it's intended.

[ here kara hesitates, because he's seen how people feel about roxas, but... ]

If there is a way that Roxas can be taken care of first, it might be a little easier. Mikazuki wouldn't have someone to protect.

It wouldn't save them. The corrupted would still be able to possess their body. I asked Mikazuki about this before.

...Yeah. That's about what I thought would happen.

Well, that won't be a problem if you take care of things before the corruption affects him.

[Well... Assuming the corruption will influence them on Thursday, as usual.]

I was able to speak to Roxas privately yesterday... But I imagine it'll get harder to separate Mikazuki from him the closer we get to the end of the week. We have to make him back off while Roxas is taken care of.

It's already Tuesday night. For all we know, it tomorrow will already be too late. They never did tell us when it starts to set in.

And we all saw what happened when Shess separated the corruption from Xion. Maybe it would be similar with this.

[ he'll nod, though. ]

That sounds about right - but he'll know we're planning to do this, for both of them. He's going to stand in the way. If Roxas runs, all the rest of you would have to do is get past Mikazuki. Shess and I can keep him busy.

If not... we'll just have to fight until one of us breaks.

Then forget about the corruption for a minute. When will you both make your move?

[There he goes again... She sighs, crossing her arms.]

Like I told Lea. Don't forget that we're all in the same boat. You can count on the rest of us to cover your asses if something goes wrong.

[ kara looks away ]

I don't want to break him if I don't have to. I'll move at the first sign of corruption, or if he makes a move against any of us.

[ ... ]

I don't want anyone else involved. None of you know his strength like I do. I, at least, know how he fights, and Shess has...

[ well. that's for shess to tell, isn't it. ]

...He has a plan to survive. No one else has that, so you'll just be distractions - and that will make all of us easier to kill, and all the plans you make tonight will be pointless. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

[ and kara doesn't want anyone else breaking jiji. ]

So, in the end— You're just gonna wait until it's obvious this can't be avoided? Even if it ends up making things worse?

[not accusing him. or even getting mad. she's just trying to wrap her head around this.]

[ he sighs. ]

What do you want me to do? He's the strongest sword I know, and he's a friend. I'll do what I have to, but I'm not that eager to be broken while we break him.

I want us to take care of them before the corruption influences them. Wouldn't striking early would make things easier for you?

Probably. But he said he still has something to do, before then. I don't think he'll let us before that's done.
