On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

She'll glance at the clothing rack when prompted, at least, eyes widening a fraction]

For anyone, really. That's the strange part. It doesn't matter what it is, it fits.

Also a perfect reason to beeline for the clothing, pulling off the first outfit she sees -- a tasteful skirt + blouse combo]

Well, we can use magic here -- so magical clothing that fits us no matter what we do shouldn't be that surprising.

Does that mean we're supposed to believe the food's magical, too? [A tap of the pencil to the page.] How much magic really exists?

[He's also eyeballing what she's picking for herself. How badly will he have to judge her? Time will tell.]

Her pick is pretty... simple, but it's cute and that's what's important]

I don't know if the food is magical... I haven't noticed anything different since I ate here.

[Which is a shame. Imagine magical bananas. The true pinnacle of civilization]

But Sol-san said we can cast magic, like wind and fire and those types of things. I don't see why they'd lie to us.

[Fine, acceptable. It's acceptable and so it's time to focus on the fact that magic is still a baffling concept.]

I can think of a couple of reasons they'd lie to us, but that part must be true. [Case in point, he and Lili almost burned their house down because they're idiots.] It's the rest of the magic I don't understand. If we have magic ourselves, can we change what's around us? That's what I want to know.

[Can they use magic to leave? Or, like, make the town less village-y?]

[Hmmm... tapping her chin in thought as she pauses from her shopping]

Do you know what your magic is? Have you tried using it to change your environment?

We won't know what we can do until we try it, I think.

...I almost lit my house on fire the first day we got here? [Ahah. Ha.]

Seems that way. [Look it was fine? It was just a lot of smoke and steam.] I've been trying to practice but it hasn't worked so well.

[But oh.] What about you? Do you know what yours is yet?

Between you and me, I haven't really tried yet...

Sol-san said I'd know if I just thought about it, but so far, nothing's coming to me yet...

There's only four options. [There's a thoughtful hum.] What do you like to do back home?

[She stalls, trying to form thoughts in a way that will make sense to someone else, but really all it does is make her look flighty. Probably]

I enjoy cooking for everyone! And dancing, too. And acting. And just... being around other people, I suppose.

[twinsightful]

So something flashy. [Nodnod.] Maybe you're fire, too? Cooking takes heat anyway.

[It makes sense to him.]

[It's a shame they're not in the kitchen bc Nana would absolutely see if she could warm up a pot of soup.

As is, she's not about to chance setting the poor boutique on fire. Nope nope.]

It does make sense... oh, that means I could keep myself warm no matter what I'm wearing.

... But I love wearing sweaters, so... maybe not.

[Listen, she's a girl who appreciates the simple stuff. Like cute clothing.]

[The boutique on fire would just mean Kaoru shrieking in full HD. But he hums because yes, yes, sweaters are nice but at the same time learning magic seems like it might be a big deal for some reason.]

If you could keep yourself warm, do you think that would be being able to regulate your own body temperature so you don't overheat? You could still wear sweaters then.

I could try!

... And probably do a poor job, haha.

[It even sounds hard, if she's to be honest. Not that she's about to let that get her down.]

Mmm maybe I can try it tonight when it's cooler.

You should try too, Hitachiin-san. It'll only help you improve.

Maybe...there's a couple of other things I want to try first, but I might ask someone else to do it instead. [He's not about to try touching fire until he figures out if he's fireproof, so time to find someone else!!]

If that doesn't work, then I guess we'll know you aren't fire.

If not, I'll just try water next.

I think that one would be really fun! Maybe I can summon a cloud to follow me everywhere if the weather is too hot...

Just so long as I figure it out before we have to fight any darkness.

Wouldn't a cloud be air instead of water? [Technically a cloud is made of both, but anyway. Shade makes sense.] I'm still hoping we won't have to fight anything for a really long time.

[That's a question to definitely ask at a later date. But anyways--]

I don't want to fight anything myself... but if we don't, does that mean we have to stay here longer?

I don't think I've tried controlling more than one. [This flat-out didn't occur to him.] I don't see why we can't try, especially if they're close together.

But I've wondered that, too. We don't know how long we'll be here even if we do fight though.

Mm... that's true.

[She deflates slightly, looking back to the clothes she'd been so eager to wear, and now... this. The idea that she's going to be stuck here isn't exactly the most heartwarming]

I don't even know why the universe chose me. Unless I can sing and dance my way to victory, I don't think I'll be of much help.

It could still help. Everyone has a skill that works for a bigger picture. [Or at least that's what he thinks because of how shoujo manga works.] Didn't they give us an amphitheater? Maybe they knew you were coming.

Oh -- they did.

[Honestly good on Kaoru because Nana had completely forgotten about the amphitheater. The idea that it was made for her (or at least, anyone with her skill set) does a lot to take the edge off.

Almost immediately, she perks back up again]

Haha, well. Maybe I can always put on a show for you guys if we're here for a while.
