On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

Why wouldn't it? There seems to be plenty of sunlight and nutrition in the soil.

All? Oh, no, that would be ridiculous! Your stomach would glow after every meal!

H... huh... Where I'm from, no food glows.

Well, I suppose it makes sense, as we are from separate worlds...

Do you have a favorite food, Akane?

[specialdog]

I like tomatoes. I think I'd like them more if they glowed.

How about you? Do you have a favorite?

[tothemaxwell]

Tomatoes? I know of such a vegetable. [Does she seem too pleased about that??]

My favorite? No. I don't believe I could choose just one. They are all too delicious, although I do have soft spots for certain things.

A bit of a foodie, huh?

[ cute... ]

A... foodie?

Like... Someone who's really into food. A... Food connoisseur. You know?

Oh!

[She beams.]

Yes! I love food, and the calorific consumption that attends it!

[ that is the most 'how do you do, fellow food consuming humans' statement ever. akane is visibly thrown by it. ]

C... Calorific consumption?

Yes! All foodstuffs come with their own consumable energy.

[wait]

Were you not aware? That is what powers humans, after all!

No, I know about calories, it's just...

Do you usually pay attention to stuff like that if you aren't on a diet or something?

[tothemaxwell]

Oh, no. I am no more aware of the calorie content of any particular foodstuff than I am of the mineral makeup of a rock.

But isn't it fascinating? Such an interesting way to gain fuel. Literal burning energy!

[ considering that Akane knows that Milla doesn't need to sleep... she laughs to make the question sound less? invasive? and more like a joke.

What are you?

A spirit.

[Zero offense taken.]

Ehh, of what?

[ no time for disbelief, she's met vampires and talking horses. ]

I am the lord of spirits. So, I suppose, of the four elements.

[specialdog]

So what does that... Mean?

I know all our powers got taken away, but what can you usually do? Magic, right?

[tothemaxwell]

I can summon the four great spirits, and command their abilities through my own. I had full control over fire, water, wind, and earth, as well as limited light and shadow abilities, although those were limited to artes, rather than my own realm.

To someone without the ability to channel spirits, I am told it looks very much like "magic".

[specialdog]

[ Akane... nods but does not really understand the distinction?? ]

... But now that you're here with the rest of us, you're down to one element, right?

[tothemaxwell]

[Her face drops, suddenly filled with consternation.]

Yes, I am. It is considerably worse than the last time I was restricted, power-wise.

I have been practicing, of course. Although my control and power grows daily, it is not equivocal to what I lost. [rrrrr]
