week zero: mingle
Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.
The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.
When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.
Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.
In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.
Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?
Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

Welcome to your tutorial week mingle log! Please see all the links within the log to check out the new updates. In addition, your status page has been updated. In case you missed it, please report all item theft to this top-level where all comments are screened. Private conversations are also open and should be reported under the Week 0 top-level.
A mini-event will also be posted on Wednesday, June 5th, so please keep an eye out for that!

Did you miss what we had said earlier? Would you like me to share the information again?
no subject
Nothing you've told us has been useful.
no subject
Mmm, if you do not have anything to work off of, that is a problem...
Very well, allow me to attempt once more to assist.
[lune doesn't seem to have a problem repeating themselves, turning to kara and offering calmly]
For the time being, you are attached the person you were initially assigned to share a home with. We have reason to believe that this attachment might compel you to get to know one another better... but the most concrete item is that it is best if the two of you take care of one another.
In order to accomplish the task assigned to us, the implication has been that to know one another better is imperative.
[on that note, lune will look over the banquet table and their voice sounds warmer, laced with a smile, as they turn back to kara]
... as such, thank you for taking it upon yourself to feed those here who do not how to harvest for themselves.

is a lot of words. and they're all still too vague to help much. ]
How was that decided?
[ and why wasn't he paired with tsurumaru instead of... whoever that guy was? (maybe he'll learn names someday) he's a little miffed about this.
and almost embarrassed about the cooking hm ]
...Someone had to.
[ tsun mode activated ]

But if there is to be a greater power at play, then know that young one and I are messengers and occasionally the ones to carry out its will.
[but it's sort of like just receiving information from above your rank? lune wonders if that will be able to make more sense for kara
anyway, they seem much happier about the tsun, their voice warm]
Certainly - someone had to. But it did not have to be you, and no one directed you to complete the task.
For that willingness to step forward, you have my gratitude. I hope I will be able to repay you in time.

[ ookurikara has work to do, and neither of them seem to get that.
he gives a faint, annoyed sound - at the universe, sol and lune, or his fellow captives, though? who can say. ]
I don't want your thanks, either.
[ what does lune even mean by repaying him ]
no subject
You have a mission, isn't it? Something vital to you.
It is understandable. The young one and I are in similar situations. The same could be said of many others here.
[but kara doesn't like talking to people... oh well, lune can pay messenger]
I explained to your companion that for the time being, time has stopped where you all were before this moment. It will not proceed without you, but I understand that means that many things were left unresolved.
However if matters here are not taken care of, I worry that it will not be possible to return you to your places at all.
[ . . . and they'll let their gaze drift to the sky for a moment]
Even so... until we receive more answers as to how to move forward, it did not seem right to leave everyone to brood and stew in uncertainty. A negative outlook may drain the mind and body faster than any illness.
And so...
Please take the food to strengthen yourselves again, and the chance to relax briefly before the real work begins.

on the other hand, ookurikara doesn't trust either of them as far as he can throw them. there's a quiet anger in his voice as he asks: ]
So we just have to deal with this?
[ again, he wonders what the point of even having lune and sol around is if all they can offer are vague thoughts and "we'll see"s.
he'd like to say the same for the party, but he's seen how they can boost troop morale, both as a sword and at the citadel. guess he can't argue that one. ]
...What is the real work supposed to be?
no subject
[lune's voice is soft, understanding. where kara will approach them with anger, they will only match him with an untouchable calm.]
To combat the instability of this place, the heart of the universe. Yet at this point, we do not know the form in which that instability might take. If it is something tangible that can be fought, or if it is something that needs to be repelled.
... the alternative, of course, is to allow the instability to continue unchecked.
While I would not prefer it... the young one and I are not to interfere with the decisions of everyone here.
Whatever it is that each of you seek, your wills are just as important.
no subject
None of that means anything to me.
[ not knowing what they're supposed to do... what good is that? ]
Can you at least explain... [ he struggles to find the word, hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. ] ...the magic? How to control it?
no subject
but at that, lune will hum thoughtfully. how to best explain the magic...]
Would you care to practice with me?
no subject
You have magic, too?
[ he and tsuru literally just discussed this possibility the other day smh... but his surprise comes less from the confirmation and more from the unexpected offer. ]
no subject
[or sol
but like hell will lune ever offer up sol]
Shall we meet after the conclusion of the festivities?
no subject
...but it's not like they have any other leads, either for these new powers or... anything, really. they still don't know anything about these two, or what they're supposed to be doing here beyond these vague explanations sol and lune like so much. it'll be like scouting out the enemy.
finally, decision made, ookurikara nods. ]
After.
[ if they're not all fucking dead from the alcohol ]
no subject
regardless, they sound as though they're smiling at that]
Very well.
Send a lantern down the river when you would like to begin, and I will answer your call.
