On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

[ Cinnabar dutifully shows up, mostly because of that feeling of being drawn there, although also partially because they do want to stay on top of what's going on. Tragically, they're still wearing the same black summer uniform they've been wearing the whole time, because gems don't really dress up for anything other than winter hibernation (and Cinnabar doesn't even do that.) They don't understand why everyone's wearing frilly clothes for this.

As it turns out? They still don't really understand what's going on, period. There's a lot of food, but they can't eat it. Everyone's moving around, but they don't know why. They feel more out of place than ever. The face paints don't seem like they actually do anything, and they don't want to mess up their powder, so they leave that alone, too. ]

... I shouldn't have come.

[ as usual, they don't belong... They'll spend most of the party standing in the corner and watching, although you might also catch them trying to slink away and leave at some point.

They are doing their best to ignore the urge to dance with their partner, and all that stuff about partners. That human girl doesn't really deserve to get stuck with them. ]

[nonbelligerent]

[ah, there's a familiar wallflower.]

Hello, Cinnabar. [...] The circumstances make it hard for you to enjoy this, don't they?

[globs]

Oh, it's you.

[ sigh. ]

It's fine. I'm the only one who's like this, so...

[nonbelligerent]

Still, when it's meant for all of us, it does seem unfair.

[hm.]

What do you think about the music?

[globs]

Is that what that sound is?

[ it's like the Lunarians, but different. They shift uneasily on their feet. ]

It's okay... I've never heard it before.

[daibanana]

[ --> That human girl doesn't really deserve to get stuck with them]

[Think or speak the Banana's name and she will come for you, gem.

[ NO... THERE SHE IS... Cinnabar spots her and immediately looks like they want to leave, but, sadly, they're in the corner, so there's not really anywhere for them to go. They just somehow seem to shrink away even more than before. ]

Go away.

[ they don't even know what dancing is but STILL NO!! ]

[daibanana]

[Nana feels the pull to dance just as much as Cinnabar does, which means she's even more on her bullshit than usual. Poor Cinnabar does not deserve this.]

Come now, just one dance? I promise to leave you be after that.

We're partners, after all. I can't dance at my best tonight if you're not with me.

[globs]

No...! You can't touch me, remember?! Don't be stupid.

[ they don't know what dancing is but they have to assume it's what everyone else is doing... it looks embarrassing, first of all, and second of all, touching is strictly forbidden here on Cinnabar Island. ]

[specialdog]

You didn't dress up.

[ is it judgment? is it just a friendly conversation starter? (does it matter?) ]

[globs]

[ they grimace when they see her. ]

There's no point. I'd just ruin the clothes. I'm fine like this.

[specialdog]

[ RUDE. ]

Are those clothes special? They don't get ruined?

[globs]

They're already ruined...

[ although yeah there's probably some kind of special coating applied to them to make them hardier. i don't know. ichikawa took pity on cinnabar and didn't make them wear filthy scraps all the time ]

[leaberator]

[ ah, he heard that sadsack wallflower comment. he remembers cinnabar wanting to keep physical distance (for? some? reason??) so he doesn't come too close, but close enough that he's not, like, shouting across the dance floor ]

Human festivals must be pretty weird for you, huh?

[globs]

[ hey, it's the other red person! Cinnabar doesn't make as much of a face as they could when he approaches. ]

A festival? Is that what this is? [ they shake their head vaguely. ] We don't have things like this.

[leaberator]

[ that tracks pretty well for lea, and he tilts his head in consideration ]

Huh. Do you guys have celebrations at all?

[ not all cultures and whatever ]

[globs]

If we do, they've never invited me.

[ so, no... ]

There's no time to goof off. We're always fighting to protect ourselves...

[televised]

We weren't given the opportunity to decline the invitation.

[Curtly. Matter-of-factly. North would normally ignore the Sad^TM commentary, but she's been curious about their profile and that sounded a little bit too sad — so. You know. Hello, fellow member of the nonparticipation squad.]

[globs]

[ hell YEAH parties are for SQUARES!! ]

Opportunity? It would have been as simple as not going through the door. That's the only "opportunity" required.

[ fuck the rules!! They've looked at the profiles, too, although the only thing of note they remember from hers is that she's incredibly young. When they were three, they don't even think they could properly speak yet. ]

[televised]

Oh? So you were able to ignore the urge to gather here? [Said in the tone of someone who was annoyed as heck when she realized she kept heading back here, no matter where she intended to go.] If that's the case, I'm impressed.

[globs]

I could have if I wanted to. But I thought something important might be happening.

[ an annoyed sigh. ]

It turns out that they're just wasting our time...

[this stupid colorful horse just trots right up to him as he's trying to slink away



and makes a point of blocking his progress. nope! you're staying! deal with it, cinnabar.]

[globs]

[ well

you know what, they've never seen any animals before, and a bird talked to them the other day, so this might as well happen. They're probably less surprised than a normal person would be. But still surprised enough to stop in their tracks. ]

... What are you supposed to be?

[ what a big animal... ]

[hashtaghelping]

[they're learning all about the animal kingdom today]

Uh... a horse, what else?

[normal horses don't have wings and horns but you know, whatever, this is fine]

You never answered my question, though.

[globs]

[ that's not helpful at all!! They just have to accept that they aren't going to know what anything is around here. The horse looks kind of like the big animals by the farm, but it's not quite the same. Plus, it talks. Maybe it's a more advanced type of farm animal.

It's big enough that Cinnabar can't go around it, either way. They sigh. ]

What does it matter to you? [ crossing their arms. ] I don't eat food, and I'm not going to jump around like the others are... There's nothing for me to do.
