Week Five

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Lune who speaks up first this time.

"Good morning, good morning. You've done well to purge the corruption in the previous gateway - allow us to assist with the finishing touches. For the time being, it would appear as though we've been able to locate another. I would not grow complacent, but I also wonder if you all might enjoy the surprise."

When Lune finishes, Sol chimes in from their place at Lune's side.

"Maybe we can have another week like the last. It'd be nice, wouldn't it? Good luck out there."

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will begin to see odd mirages and hear voices calling for them. Even though they might not realize it, these phantoms that will be haunting them will be their partner's most important person, calling for them to come home. Partners will only be able to see each other's illusions if they make physical contact.

What isn't?

[ Liking Hisoka the clown enough to name a cat after him is THE NUMBER ONE mystifying thing for Four. Outside his behavior. ]

Sometimes, you say things that are touching, and then in the next second, you say something that makes me question your well-being.

[compendiem]

[ Minato literally can't understand why people don't like Hisoka and it's very unfortunate. He also can't really tell what he says that's touching, and he could be standing here doing nothing and people question his well-being. ]

.......maybe it's me who's mystified by everything. I don't notice that at all.

[forefall]

It may be both, and it... doesn't make for the easiest combination.

[ She gets emotional whiplash. ]

I don't... [ Hm. Never mind that thought. ]

[compendiem]

You don't... what?

[ He was going to guess, but if she doesn't understand heck all anything he's thinking and he doesn't understand heck all anything she's thinking, what, really, is the point ]

[forefall]

I don't know if I want your self-awareness of the former to rise, but I do want your self-awareness of the latter to.

[ That is, she wrote him a self-help book and he's kind of following it? That's good.

If he knew the right words to say to her.... that would. Probably be bad. ]

[ He's kind of following it... He ate a lot of """birthday cake""" on Monday and Tuesday's meals consisted of chocolate and ramen, but it's still early in the week!! Things can still happen. ]

Well... It's already sort of risen, now, 'cause you mentioned it. If you could do that more, that'd be helpful.

[ He already LEFT IT. Wow. Well, at least Four still has the honor of somehow making Minato take a shower. ]

... Sure. If you really think it'd be helpful, I'll do it as often as you'd like.

[compendiem]

[ The intention was there... But yeah, a lot of people are thanking Four in their hearts for the shower thing. ]

Every second of every day?

[ Because as often as he'd like is just constantly, forever. ]

[forefall]

I... I don't know if that's feasible, but... would you really want me around that often?

[ He's scared of her? Not that she knows that, but we know that. ]

[compendiem]

[ Minato is terrified of Emma but he goes to bother her all the time... Maybe he just likes death. ]

Yeah? I like you.

[ He can be scared of somebody and still like them. Gestures at all the girls. ]

[forefall]

[ That simple and honest admission stuns her and freezes her in her tracks. It takes her two seconds to remember the way he probably means it.

She smiles at him. ]

Hm? Well... I can't help but worry about you, so I'll remind you as often as I can. I want you to live as long as possible... despite whatever state your world is in.

[compendiem]

[ Simple and honest, he likes her. The same way he likes a lot of things— he likes the world, despite having to live in it, he likes people, despite not getting along with them, he likes the night and he likes the ocean and he likes coffee and bread. Those sorts of likes, but there's fondness and appreciation in his smile too, when he returns it, something shier in the way he casts his eyes down for a moment before looking back up at her. ]

...Yeah. I've been giving it thought, after we talked. About wanting to live, too. Things to live for... I've got a lot of that, here.

[forefall]

Do you now? That's good to hear.

[ She holds up Hisoka for him to take from her. ]

The cat won't attack you while I'm beside you.

[ Besides, they're probably almost near the koi pond. ]

[compendiem]

Thanks, Four. I appreciate that.

[ He doesn't take the cat back, because he thinks Four is just holding it up to show him how chill it is with her. ]

[forefall]

[ This is why he either annoys her/makes her tired or takes her off guard. ]

I've calmed your cat, but what about the other thing that's screaming around you?

[compendiem]

[ This is why Four and everybody else should say things outright instead of believing Minato operates on the same page. ]

Hm... Dunno if you can calm it, but you can try? It's made of glass, not flesh.

[ He probably means something like "it's not an animal," but he's too busy digging it out of his bag to show Four. ]

[forefall]

[ Four and everybody else probably don't think Minato operates on the same page. They only hope he can read the same page sometime. ]

Even if I can't, I want to know what's making the noise, so I'm not left wondering why.

[compendiem]

[ Minato doesn't know how to read ]

Oh. I don't know what it is either.

[ But he will pull off three layers of socks and show Four the glass top and the cat in her arms will screech and leap out of her arms because no magic can compare to this unholy noise ]

[ Bye, Hisoka.

Four claps her hands over hear ears. ]

Put it back! Where did you get it?

[compendiem]

[ Minato is deaf in one ear so it doesn't seem to bother him much. He wraps it up and puts it away before speaking again. ]

Got it with Julius after dealing with the monster in the closet last week. I didn't really do anything, though, so I should probably make him hold onto it.

[ Minato doesn't really want this either... ]

[forefall]

[ Why has no one tried to get him his ear back? Why has he not tried to get his ear back?

She stares at him for a second. ]

Yes, please give it to him. He may be able to work with it more.

[ Maybe it won't scream around Julius as much? You know, like the cat. ]

[compendiem]

[ Milla asked him this exact same thing about healing and Minato was just "lmao I'm not going to ask them to heal me, I'm fine like this." ]

Yeah... Julius is smart, so he'll figure it out. But I sort of want to give it a shot too... Instead of letting everybody else solve my problems, you know?

[ He's making an effort this week, Four! Just like he promised he would!! ]

[forefall]

[ Oh...

That does get another smile out of Four. ]

I'm proud of you for trying. That's what I wanted to see from you, you know. Trying... like this.

[ And not trying to indirectly kill himself. ]

[compendiem]

[ Instead of indirectly killing himself, Minato trying means he's directly destroying everybody else's eardrums. That's the trade-off, I guess.

Anyways, the smile makes him smile, and Minato stands up a little straighter. ]

I brushed my hair this morning, too.

[ Does he not normally brush his hair? He does not. He just wakes up and goes. ]

[forefall]

[ ...

It's not like she doesn't know someone who doesn't take care of themselves like that, but also.... ]

I hope you'll continue to brush your hair tomorrow, too. And the day after that.
