The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

She glances his way, tilting her head in thought as she responds.]

You feel like sharing?

[leaberator]

Sure. Either we've got some very persistent stalkers, or whoever brought us here is somehow omniscient. I dunno about you, but I kinda don't like either of those options, even a little bit.

[She takes a moment to think about it, then shakes her head.]

Not sure which is worse, honestly. Like, would I rather know that someone's been discreetly following me around for at least several years, or would I rather know that some incredibly powerful being thought it would be fun to trap me in some weird state park with added amenities?

[leaberator]

Yeah, see? Both options are just plain bad. Though if I had to pick based on sense alone, somehow the one with the all-knowing being wins out of the two. And that's enough to give anyone the heebie-jeebies.

[ grown ass man using heebie-jeebies would feel better with a bunch of stalkers because at least he's been there. on the other side, but there. ]

[There's definitely a smirk as he mentions 'heebie-jeebies', though she doesn't comment on it.]

Interesting choice. It seems to me like retaliating against some weird omnipotent entity with unclear goals seems way more obnoxious, though.

Yeah, that's why it's the more likely option. Nothing's ever the easy route.

Hm. Pessimistic, but probably not wrong given the whole mass kidnapping deal we've got on our hands.

[This might be a strange time for a smile, but it seems like there's something she finds amusing about that. It fades as she continues, though.]

Speaking of which, you got any ideas about why someone would want to kidnap you?

Honestly? Nope. Most of the people who hate me want me dead. ...Or far away from them. [ just casually admitting to mortal enemies, i guess ] Not to mention most of them are kind of supposed to be long gone. What about you?

[foodbin]

...You said that entirely too calmly and I'm not sure how to feel about it. No, I know how to feel about and it's negative.

[anyways.]

I don't know. Mercy? Can't say I was exactly fond of where I came from, but somehow I don't get the feeling this hypothetical omnipotent entity took that into account.

[leaberator]

Hey, that's how I feel about it too!

[ negatively. it's a joke. speaking of anyways: ]

Was your world seriously that bad that being kidnapped for whatever reason might be mercy? Yeesh.

So the whole mortal enemy thing was just bad luck?

[hm.]

Long story, but it was not exactly a paradise by the time I wound up here. [...] Where are you from?

[leaberator]

Nah, not bad luck. It's kind of a long story.

[ they can both long story each other forever, it's fine. he looks pensive at that ]

Hmm... I've been lots of places. I kinda just go where my friends do.

[ that's lame. that's such a lame thing to say. ]

Seems like there are a lot of those to be found.

[She lets it drop at that, though, another small smile making its way onto her face.]

Big fan of travel, a little bit clingy, or a mix of both?

[leaberator]

[ that gets a laugh out of him ]

Ah, definitely a mix of both. Though most of the travel was... I guess you could say work related.

[foodbin]

So you actually like your coworkers? Lucky guy. I mean, unless your boss was just cool with you bringing your friends on every business trip, in which case... Still lucky.

[leaberator]

I couldn't stand most of them. I'm pretty sure the feeling was mutual. [ ha ha. ] Eh, but it's fine. I quit a while back. Sounds like your job's a pain, though.

[foodbin]

Is that a long story, too, or is it less complicated than the part where several people want to kill you?

[She shrugs.]

Serving coffee to assholes who are always telling you to smile more isn't anybody's dream, but it was a living. I actually quit not too long before coming here too, though.

[leaberator]

It's the same long story, actually. So... more or less the same amount of complicated.

[ yikes. ]

Hey, good for you! Though I guess with your world going all over the place, there was no need to keep the job.

[foodbin]

[It's quick, but if he's perceptive, he might notice the way her expression tightens for a moment before she continues.]

Thanks. I feel like you should get a bigger congratulations if you left a job that may or may not have made people want to kill you, though. What was it, anyways? Unless that's also part of the same story.

[ he seems almost embarrassed for a second ]

Ah... naw. I took too long to quit that to get any credit for it. [ and he at least has the decency to look apologetic at his latest answer: ] Yep. It's a long, long, stupid story.

Maybe we'll swap them sometime.

[Unless they get out of here quickly, but she has to worry how likely that is. It seems like it wasn't simple to bring them here, whatever the reason might be.]

Ha, sure. If things start to drag on too long, we can share stories and see who had the worst boss.

Yeah, none taken. I'm hoping our mysterious captors will show up to tell us what exactly it is they want before too long.

Bad guy doing an evil plot on a grand scale... There'll be a dramatic monologue before long, I just know it.
