Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

i. fire

[ What the fuck is a desert.

Ookurikara has never seen one before, and honestly? He doesn't really like it all that much, but there's something about the place that draws him in anyway. He follows that feeling through the terrain, eyeing the local fauna and volcanos with cautious curiosity, until he finds an arched doorway.

Seems like a weird place for that, but okay.

And the space inside... seems like an interesting place to train. But not with powers, because Ookurikara hasn't noticed those yet somehow?? So after shedding his jacket and waistcoat (it's hot) and leaving them somewhere they won't burn, he'll just. Be here. Going through some drills with his sword, I guess.

The only acknowledgment he'll give anyone else is a glance, unless they speak to him or show off their powers. Why is he like this. ]

ii. water

[ After training out there, It's nice to get a nice, salty breeze before heading back to the main part of the village. He still hasn't put all his clothes back on though... he's holding them and his shoes as he stands in a small tide pool, looking to cool down as he watches the fish swim by. But something's caught his eye. ]

A shark...?

[ He's never seen one of those before?? It looks so cool...! ]

iii. festival.

[ Music is... good. This isn't the koto, so it's not Ookurikara's favorite, but... it's enough. He wants to know who's playing, or at least where it's coming from, so catch him wandering aimlessly through the village trying to locate it for a while. At least until he realizes he's not getting anywhere, and figures someone else might have a better answer. ]

Oi. Do you know where this music's coming from?

iv. kitchen

[ for some reason none of you can cook?! to be fair though that's. just like the rest of the swords in the citadel. why is everyone useless.

guess kara's cooking dinner for everyone? it's not quite on mitsutada's level but it'll pass - hope y'all like udon because that's what you're getting. he's not taking requests. (yeah he is actually but please don't ask) ]

[there's no delivery food in this place so kazuaki has to either brave the outside or starve. it's ok! he can be courageous! this is a new place! new him!]

[........................ but this guy cooking is... super scary!! he's got dark skin and a dragon tattoo and- that's definitely dangerous, isn't it?!]

[but he's- hungry- but scary- but new him- but hungry-!!]

[ he doesn't notice kazuaki at first. he's busy, you know? but at some point he has to turn around, and - ah.

ookurikara pauses, staring at him in silence. bird? is it hungry? what do birds eat?

after a quick glance confirms there's no one else around (it is very important no one sees his weakness to animals), he turns to the cupboard where he found the bread earlier. bread seems safe for a bird, right? he'll just put a slice on a plate and kneel, setting it on the floor before kazuaki like a peace offering. ]

[Because Nana lives in the kitchen tbh so of course she's going to see the only other resident cook who is the reason they haven't starved, yet]

Oh, are we getting another meal from Ookurikara-san?

[her voice is faintly teasing but she is absolutely zeroing in on what he's making. Udon, is it? Aaah, how nostalgic]

[ You again...

...but Daibana is okay company, thanks to banana bread. Or at least she isn't annoying. ]

Udon.

[ That'll have to count as "hello" i guess. ]

Ah, what an excellent choice.

[Going to MAKE HERSELF COMFORTABLE on a stool or whatever is available to sit on. No escape, Ookurikara. No escape]

Where did you learn to cook?

[ She's interested in something like that? Hm. ]

...My former master believed that someone with no knowledge of cooking is the owner of a poor heart.

[ It was Mitsutada who helped refine his skills, but thanks to Masamune, he's always known enough to get by on his own. ]

[Blinking... at the mention of a master...

how interesting]

That's the first time I've heard anyone put it like that...

But so long as you enjoy it, that's the most important part, I think.

[Val stays entirely dressed in his whole vampire ensemble and will not be stripping down, thank you very much. Which really just means he's going to have a lot of sand in his shoes whenever he goes back to home base.]

They're on the top of the oceanic food chain. It's best not to eat them.

It's odd to see them so close to shore.

[ What? Who said anything about eating them? Ookurikara only gives Val a slightly baffled side glance before turning back to watch the creatures, almost like he's mesmerized by them. ]

...I've never seen them before.

[Why else would you go to the ocean if you weren't going to eat the things that were there??]

[ yeah that's the logical explanation. to that. ]

[ oh. this guy. good to see he's still an idiot, i guess. at least he's consistent. ]

[ anyway ookurikara just gives him a flat look before casting his gaze back over the village. where the fuck is it coming from. ]

It sounds like... a festival.

Yeah, and yet there's not a single festival in sight. Pretty weird. [ he looks around casually like he ain't that bothered by magic music ] Maybe there's some secret speakers hanging around.

Speakers...?

[ not so much a question for lea as it's just a quiet, slightly confused echo. there is no one talking around here except the two of them. what is he going on about. ]

Someone must have found some instruments.

[It would be more fun to not speak and do what he wants to do first, but then if Ookurikara happened to get injured... it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining. It has to be a game. Going straight in for the climax isn't satisfying.

So he gives a, "Yo," in greeting to get the man's attention.

And then he throws the dagger between his fingers directly at Kara without either warning or holding back; the only indication is the swoop of his arm across his chest before he flings it.

He's... smiling! It's exciting.]

[ For some reason he's not expecting to be bothered this far into a volcano? But he looks up when someone speaks, and it's only because he's used to surprise attacks that he manages to block the dagger before it can hit. As it falls to the ground, he turns to glare silently at Hisoka.

What the fuck, dude. ]

[Perfect. Wonderful. Nothing is any better than Kara having good reaction time. He's still smiling because of course he is.

Simply, he raises one arm and extends it out in Kara's direction. And then he curls the nailed fingers, beckoning.

Show him what you've got?]

[ Frowning, Ookurikara continues to simply... stare. This guy wants a fight? He could have it - Kara could use it, too, honestly - but... he looks unarmed, now that he's thrown that dagger. There's no point in sparring with a defenseless opponent, so he keeps one eye on the newcomer, just in case, as he goes to pick up the dagger.

Then he tosses it back. Turns out, despite needing an attitude adjustment, he's kind of a good sport?

He'll come at you when you're ready, Hisoka. ]

[ xion's just chillin and strolling along the beach when she almost bumps into kara, but she's aware enough of her surroundings to stop before that happens. ]

Oh—sorry. I should watch where I'm going. [ she gives a small bow of her head, then follows his gaze ] Wow... it's so big!

[ He doesn't acknowledge the apology in any way. His eyes are locked on the shark. ]

Are they always that big?

[ honestly that's fine... she's used to being ignored, and he's at least still responding to her at all. that's a step up from the norm! ]

I'm not sure... I've never seen one this close. All I have to work off of are fuzzy memories.

[ Maybe someone else would ask about her memories, but not Ookurikara! It's all shark over here. ]

Are they dangerous?
