The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Awakening/Gate

[It's fairly seamless when he wakes up, sitting up in place and glancing around the village. It's a little too quiet for his tastes and he looks immediately to his left as though expecting someone else to be there. The frown of disappointment is too hard to miss. In the end, he rises to his feet and slips his hands in his pockets, immediately setting off down one of the paths until he hits a gate. Here, he stands and he waits, staring up at the gate with a questioning look.

...you know. Before he just kicks it? A few times. He kicks it a few times as though the gate will budge before he turns to whomever is nearby.]

Where's the key?

[Clearly there must be one.]

Everywhere. Like, literally everywhere.

[Upon realizing that the gates aren't moving anytime soon, Kaoru begins to wander the other paths and starts poking around the other buildings. Given his disposition and the way he doesn't linger for long, it seems that he's looking for something in particular rather than familiarizing himself with the place. The only areas he stays for long are:

The library. Here, he actually walks inside and begins to assess the collection of books in front of him, long fingers running along the spines of a shelf of books as he pulls out something of interest. Sorry if that means literally reaching over your head to do so.

The main hall. He's busy studying the profile scrolls, arms folded over his chest as he analyzes all of them before stopping at his own. It's only then that he speaks up.]

Who wrote these? [He doesn't even sound particularly mad. Just...bemused, maybe.

And finally the garden is of interest to him as he walks through the paths of flowers. Every now and then he'll pick a place to stop and look around, but at least he's occupying himself here.]

Houses -- And A Guest?

[At some point though for anyone who's busy passing by the houses...well. You'll see a whole lot of smoke and steam coming from one house in particular. And a lot of yelling? A lot of yelling can be heard from the house, the door slightly ajar and two voices drifting out into the open clearly arguing with one another.

[ Or... what's not here? Minato isn't exactly sure which it is, but Miki sure is fretting a lot and it's noisy... If he can help, it's all for the better, he thinks. ]

That seemed entirely deliberate. Are you in the business of injuring yourself often?

If it's something that I like, I don't think I'd mind. But grass does sound pretty bland... Are leaves any better than grass?

[ There are trees thataway. Flowers? Do horses eat flowers?? He's too used to taking care of soul horses that just feed off his life force, he doesn't know what to do about real ones. ]

[ ... Akane attempts to open the gate. ]

[This isn't even the weirdest thing Val has ever dealt with. Though he does thing something like this pegasus-unicorn would make much more sense in Celstia than wherever they are.]

I'll admit, it wasn't what I was expecting either.

I'm not often spirited away like this.

[ Minato shrugs, because honestly, he can't tell either. Whether he's better or worse than the rest... worse... probably... ]

... well, at least you tried. [she places her hands on her hips] Now we have to try something else.

[ohhhhhhh god, a human. there were so many humans here? if this was the afterlife, it would make sense for there to be a lot more humans than birds. but if this was the afterlife, why would there be- ... bananas?]

[despite his fears, her chipper way of greeting him is sort of enticing. like, if she were a bird, he would just assume she was a nice and pleasant somebirdie.]

Um... uh... [his voice is still a bit raspy from lack of use]

It's not the first time I've been kidnapped, but it's the first time I've been allowed to roam free afterward.

[ No... Minato's a bit tired of the whole magic and fighting thing, but he comes up besides Kazuaki and stares up at the scroll. ]

[ ... well, she's wrong because some people have canonmates but that's not important. ]

I'm not sure, but there's nothing useful to me here. Even if I were to write a letter, it wouldn't have any way of leaving if we can't open these gates. An option is to try smoke signals later, if there's a chance they can be seen by someone else.

[a gesture back to the gates]

[she speaks so certainly she's going to be so irritated later]

[ She spins around, surprisingly quickly and for a brief moment she looks -- kinda scared? Or maybe like she's doubting what she's seeing in front of her. Which, right now, is just Minato? ]

[ She shakes her head. ]

My friends. I was with three of them, they--they can't just be gone.

Kidnapped?

[ Here Minato just assumed he pulled the trigger in front of Ryoji and just sort of killed himself for real that time, which would make more sense than being kidnapped. What merit would there be to kidnapping him? Or any of these other freaks. ]

So you're a veteran... Does that make you good at escaping, or bad at not getting caught...

[ Important to know before he asks for advice ]

[ for some reason, this idiot is standing right smack dab in the middle of the village, holding his arm out in front of him and opening and closing his hand. like an idiot. he shakes it a bit with a disgruntled huff, speaking to himself: ]

[ anyway, axel's strolling leisurely through the main hall, looking at all the scrolls, though he's obviously lingering on his own. there's a bit of a twist to his mouth, though when he notices someone else around, he comments idly; ]

Y'know... I dunno about yours, but mine kind of feels like a bit of a personal attack.

[ he sounds vaguely amused by that, somehow. ]

[ he's in yo house, pressing buttons on what looks like the world's stupidest toy with a frown on his face, but he looks up immediately when he notices Mary come in. he blinks for a bit before settling into a smile ]

Hey, kid. [ is she lost? or is she his?? potential??? roommate?? he settles for: ] Is that book yours?

[ because he saw the cover and got an extreme case of sad so he's really hoping for a no, ]
