week zero: mingle
Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.
The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.
When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.
Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.
In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.
Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?
Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

Welcome to your tutorial week mingle log! Please see all the links within the log to check out the new updates. In addition, your status page has been updated. In case you missed it, please report all item theft to this top-level where all comments are screened. Private conversations are also open and should be reported under the Week 0 top-level.
A mini-event will also be posted on Wednesday, June 5th, so please keep an eye out for that!

a.) You can find Kaoru at the boutique, leaning against the wall and waiting for people to walk in. The invite did say finest attire, after all, and he at least intends to make sure that happens.]
You have an idea of what you're looking for, don't you?
[b.) Later, dressed nicely, he can be found surveying the food because it's a lot and while he doesn't know how to cook, there's plenty to eyeball. In fact, he's busy picking up a baked good of some sort before holding it up to whoever is closest.]
Here, try this and tell me what it is.
[c. But on the other hand, at least Kaoru knows how to dance. He'll watch for a while, and anyone who isn't actively dancing will be approached.]
…we may as well have fun while we can. Shall we? [Dance with him, fools.]
b
Is it sweet?
[Does it seem like the kind of thing that's mostly sugar?]

It seems to contain peaches.

I've literally never danced before in my life. I'll pass - I'll just tread on your feet.
[ See? Mistake. ]

[...this is his element, let him have this.]

[ She's just looking at his hand like it's a foreign entity. ]
... If I do, you can't complain. I did warn you.

Not really, no. [ laughs weakly ] Maybe the kind of dress a princess would wear...?
no subject
Have you met any princesses before? [He's going to step forward to get a better look, checking on colors and textures before turning to gesture toward a rack of dresses. Come along, Xion.]
no subject
[ at his gesture, she follows along, eyes wide with curiosity. dress her up kaoru!!! ]

Wh-- you wanna dance?
[ yes that is generally what people do at a dance, axel, ]
no subject
What else would you do with a dance floor?
no subject
[ it haunts him. but he's joking. maybe. ]
You're really into these kinds of things, huh?
no subject
[The look's quickly replaced with a pleased grin though. He's 0% embarrassed to be called out on this.] Mm...you have magic and I have parties and social events. We've been attending them for our entire lives. It's easy.
[Easier than everything else here, he means.]

[Grim Eyes hasn't been dancing at all yet, so of course she has been standing to a side. She was satisfied with that, and theeeeen came Kaoru to ask such a foolish question.
Foolish mainly because she knows nothing about dancing, therefore she doesn't want to try. She's not someone who gets embarrassed easily, but making a fool of herself is something she'd like not to do]
no subject
And why would I reconsider?
no subject
[The way her tone sounds makes a mystery whether she means she'd step on his feet on purpose or not.
...
She wouldn't because she's not petty, but yeah]
no subject
You must be very out of your element, aren't you? [Lightly, trying not to sound too snobby but still a little curious.]

[ Cinnabar... is dressed exactly the same. They never wandered anywhere near the boutique, for fear of getting mercury on any of the clothes, so, sadly, they missed out on Kaoru showing them how to dress. They recoil from the baked good like he just held a big bug out at them. ]

What do gems even eat?
no subject
[ they're like a plant. ]
no subject
But doesn't the sun ever go down? What then? [Do gems just sleep through the night like people?
...also since Cinnabar's not eating it, he'll take a bite of the treat in his hand himself.]
