week four: mingle
Week Four
22 in Competition
22 in Competition
As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.
Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.
As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Sol who speaks up first this time.
"We've been asked to open another gateway for you guys, but...it's funny. It sort of feels like things have calmed down. The corruption's temporarily evened out and the universe is stabilized for now, but that doesn't mean we should stop looking. Take a look and see what you can find on the other side. You might even get to learn something new."
When Sol finishes, they turn to face Lune, allowing for the other to speak for themselves.
"A bit of reprieve of welcome, isn't it? Please take this time to recover, even as you make steps forward to continue your good work. Thank you, thank you."
The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.
In addition, as the week goes on, partners will be able to hear each other's thoughts whenever they look at one another! They may not hear every single thought that occurs, but the link will partners to hear thoughts as though their partner is speaking out loud. The more private the thought, the more likely the partner will pick up on it.

Welcome to your week three mingle! As a reminder, this is break week! This means no murders and no trial! Your normal schedule will resume next week. We will still be hosting a laid-back mini-event on Tuesday, however.
In addition, ensure that all of your week three private conversations were reported on the page, and your week four private conversations are reported on that page. If you'll be taking anything from locations, please report that as well.

mini-event: leviosa.
On Tuesday, a shrill whistle fills the air and can be heard from anywhere inside the village and the gateway.
Regardless of where you may be, you'll find yourself approached by a pygmy owl who promptly holds its leg out to you, a thin bit of parchment tied there. Please tip your owl, they've worked very hard and they will be persistent until acknowledged. Upon retrieving and unraveling the scroll, you'll find a message written in fancy handwriting.
Whether you follow the message or not, it seems as though something awaits you on Tuesday as you venture through the portal and march toward the field. Several broomsticks of all shapes and sizes stand in a line, hovering in mid-air and ready for a rider to mount them and take off on another thrilling adventure. Attached to each broom is a small satchel complete with a compass, two glass jars, and a book titled Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1. Each broom also comes equip with another scroll, though you'll have to approach to take a read. With the unbinding of this scroll, a small brass key appears. Tiny wings unfurl…and the key dashes off, leaving you with a map of its coordinates and a riddle to solve. Though the key won't fly very far away from the campus or the little village nearby, it's quick and easy to lose and will lead all on a chase to capture it once more. Have fun hunting that down.
For those who wish to stay on the ground, on the opposite end of the field there's a large wardrobe that wobbles every time it's approached. Though the doors remain locked tight, whatever's inside won't stay hidden for very long. As you approach the door, the lock will slowly unwind and the creature inside tumbles out, barely giving a hint of its true nature before taking shape of whatever it is you fear the most. It can switch forms as well, digging into your deepest insecurities and seeming just as real as you and the person next to you. Take heart; a little bit of guidance and a little bit of magic can extinguish this creature and banish it right back where it came from, leaving a wingless key behind. Work together to defeat and immobilize this creature.
Though you may not be used to your new abilities, you'll find yourself able to shape and create spells to your liking and working to your benefit whether you're on the ground facing your fears or in the air chasing down a new target. However, flying skills don't come so naturally. You still have to worry about falling, so be careful!
Do your best to stay focused, and draw on the power from within.
npc.
For those of you a bit more comfortable working without instruction, please follow those keys! They'll put up a fight but can be contained. Please bring them to me immediately.
As for the rest of you, it's important to remember it's always possible to laugh in the face of fear. Don't let it paralyze you.
[…she lifts her eyebrows.] Well? What are you waiting for? Go!
[She'll be here to answer questions, give insight to certain spells, and interpret the directional and hint scrolls tied to each broom. She's also grading every single one of you.]
Re: npc.
Hi, um—how exactly are we supposed to beat those... monsters?

mod notes.
Please use this top-level if you would like Ty to create a scenario for your flight including a location, the key's behavior, and what struggles you may encounter along the way! You are also free to make things up if you're familiar with this portal's lore, as the campus, the woods, and the gateway village are all game. We will leave your fear manifestations and how they impact your character up to you.
Finally, in order to earn prizes from this mini-event, please report them here! In order to capture a key, please include a thread that a ) involves your group going to efforts to catch a key and b ) has 15 comments from everyone involved in the thread! These threads can be a max of three people, and like previous mini-events, two additional, larger prizes will be RNGed to random groups that turn in their thread.]

minato & julius
By the time it reaches the end of the field, Minato's just on the ground being dragged through the dirt, hi Julius. ]
no subject
and he's mostly fine outside of the leg. minato, on the other hand, ]
Remember when I [ and everyone else ] asked you to take care of yourself? Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the opposite of what we had in mind.
[ can he haul minato up onto his feet or is that an exercise in futility. ]

They're still not good at asking, though. After a minute or two of wavering and/or building up the courage to actually ask someone to do something with them, they approach him, looking awkward, as usual. ]
Um... Shess... Are you going to get a key? It'll be easier to fight in a pair... I think.
[ in the end they still kind of failed ]

cinnabar's fairly easy to understand when they're this, so shess smiles.]
Yes, I am. I'd be happy to work together with you.

I thought this week was going to be a reprieve for us.
[WHY ARE THEY BEING GRADED...]

I suppose reprieves are only relative.

lili and minato make mistakes.
but either way, off to explore the wardrobe they go
it wobbles once.]
Sure, that seems suspicious enough.
[time to approach]
lili's and minato's lives are a mistake
[ Minato's not the character I was playing when I had my character lock a child in a closet, but he's around just as bad, stepping right up to the wardrobe and tapping his knuckles against it. ]
Like that coffin, right? Probably a dead person inside.

Sure enough, when she does mount the broom and focus on getting it off the ground, it rises just enough for her feet to be off the ground... and then it rolls over, taking her with it and shoots up into the air. ]
AHHH--!! [ She's clinging on to it. Like a trooper. ] I thought this we were supposed to be having downtime? This isn't relaxing?!
no subject
[She says that, but even as she lifts off, it's clear she's not having an easy time of it either. She's gripping the broom so hard her knuckles are going white to make sure she doesn't fall off.]

kara and lili would sooner be traumatized than date.
did she assume kara would come with her? idk.]
Do you think less people are going to get injured from this version of events at least?
[god she hopes so]
kaoru is trying his best despite that
Probably. This isn't a war.
