week two: mingle
Week Two
26 in Competition
26 in Competition
As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.
Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.
As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Lune who speaks up first this time.
"Good morning, good morning. You've done well to purge the corruption in the previous gateway - allow us to assist with the finishing touches. For the time being, it would appear as though we've been able to locate another. The land might appear a bit familiar to some however... I only advise you watch your step."
When Lune finishes, Sol chimes in from their place at Lune's side.
"The corruption is still out there, and we're going to do all that we can to find a way to contain it. But until then... stick close to others this week. Do your best to protect yourselves and look after each other. Okay?"
The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.
The only oddity is that throughout the week, in a noise that extends past the portal but seems to resound even through the village, there will be the occasional, resounding call of a war horn.
In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find ever-growing feelings of anxiety and nervousness dwelling within them the longer they are separated from one another. They will feel compelled to be very close to their partners at all times, and will be on edge if separated for more than an hour by the end of the week. Welcome to surprise codependence at its finest.

Welcome to your week two mingle! As a reminder, murder proposals are open. We will also be hosting a mini-event on Tuesday, so please be on the lookout for that.
In addition, ensure that all of your week one private conversations were reported on the page, and your week two private conversations are reported on that page. If you'll be taking anything from locations, please report that as well.

mini-event: wartime.
On Tuesday, there is one long, loud echo of a war conch.
By morning, a new scroll has been hung alongside each of the houses.
There shall be a shield of magic to prevent you from being recognized as anomalies in time – however we are unable to guide you further than this.
Find the child of purgatory, and protect the innocent against the tides of war.
Take care of one another.
On Tuesday, when the portal is approached, it looks – different? Rather than the border of darkness, the edges of it shine gold. However when it is stepped through, the terrain appears a bit different. Participants will find themselves in the ninja village that was previously deserted – though it is now overrun with people who seem to be rushing back and forth. Dressed all in black, ninjas race toward a battlefield, shouting – “Oda’s forces are approaching!” and “Keep the condemned at bay!” Even young children, knives in their hands, appear to be heading toward the frontlines.
(If anyone thinks that they have time for an outfit change, they’re free to grab a set of black ninja clothes from one of the storehouses, adjusted to their liking. LARP your best life.)
On the frontlines, characters who rush toward the action will be dispatched in teams of two to three, and they’ll quickly find themselves in the thick of the battle. Their opponents are samurai, as both cavalry and infantry, shadows flickering about their person. However it is only the samurai who are mounted on horses, who hold onto war conches, that appear to emanate an incredibly sinister aura with a tightly rolled scroll at their hip. Defeating the general will be enough to make that section of soldiers scatter and lose direction. Even for characters who are not entirely skilled on the battlefield they’ll suddenly find the nefarious terrain working to their benefit. Pits open underneath the feet of soldiers, ropes trap them in the air, and kunai from other ninja will occasional rain down to help – probably. Within the battlefield there is also a large maze constructed out of wood, logs aligned side by side easily clearing twelve feet tall. Do better in closed-space battles? Lure your enemy there. There also appear to be a few discarded guns on the battlefield, though they’re good for one use only.
Though it’s not as if the war possesses only one front.
Within the village, it seems like there are finally medical supplies to be brought around. Injured have been brought back and need to be tended to, as children and those too sick to fight have been told to remain away from the war. You may be sent on missions to deliver smaller medical kits to the frontlines – provided that you aren’t intercepted. On the far edge of the village there had been a cliff with a steep drop and the darkness below. Today, ghastly figures will make their climb up from the pit, darkness seeming to move their limbs as though they are puppets. Their movements are slower than that of the battlefield, though their strength fortified enough to break bones if they manage to catch you. They’ll wander the village, even entering the trap-infested buildings in search of slaughter. Each of them wear beads around their necks, another dark scroll hanging from the makeshift necklace, and each of them will be freed from the darkness once the scroll is retrieved from them.
Good luck out there -
After all, all’s fair in love and war.
npc.
amidst the chaos, there appears to be one man wearing one of the ninja cloaks over his own clothes, irritation evident on his face even as he barks out instructions—]
If you can fight, get your asses into gear! Oda’s forces shouldn’t be this strong…. Are they be using magic in order to fortify their strength? Tch, get me those scrolls! I want to know what’s in them!!
You can keep them after for all I care – just keep those bastards from getting to the village!
[it would appear that you’ve found your point of contact for this corruption battle – he’s around to answer questions, give directions, and suggest strategies if you need them. or you might be able to just shoot the shit.]

Please use this top-level if you would like Dana to RNG a fight setting and injuries for you! It’s effectively your Wheel of Maiming, and you’re free to take as many liberties with it as you’d like if you’re not in love with what you get! You are also free to let me know if you want to leave severe injuries (aka severed limbs) off the list.
Lastly, in order to earn prizes from this mini-event, please report them here! In order to keep a scroll, please include a thread that a ) has your group obviously trying to get a scroll and b ) has 15 comments from everyone involved in the thread! Please max scroll-catching threads at 3 people in a thread! Two additional, larger prizes will be RNGed to two random groups that turn in their thread.]

He's cutting straight through the soldiers without a thought, determined to get all the way to one of them on the horses with the scrolls.
He calls out to someone nearby.]

[So, You Got Injured Doing Something Stupid At War...]
[Kazuaki is sitting with a first-aid kit and- well- he's trying, okay. He's got bandages! And a compress! And no idea about human anatomy! It'll be fine!]
ghastly haunters (and gengar?)
[back at the village, your character may hear a faint, high pitched sound]
[... it's kazuaki screaming]
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
[He's being chased by one of the figures from the cliff- or, well, chased is a weird way to put it. When he's running full-speed, he's entirely faster than it. It has stamina, though. As he darts back and forth the ghoul just- keeps chasing, back and forth between buildings, like some absurdist Scooby Doo chase scene]

lili & miki - village
and then of course the "figures" make their way up into the village and ruin everything. although miki, after an initial moment of what looks like real fear, goes oddly quiet - grabbing the nearest "weapon-like" object she can find, something like a long-handled farming fork, and presses her back to one of the building walls. she's completely silent for a moment, before turning to press her finger to her lips at whoever is nearest. ]
Keep as quiet as you can.
[ and then she's shifting her weight to peer around the corner of the building, keeping herself in as much shadow as possible. weirdly, it might look like she's done this sort of thing before... ]

Not that they're seeing much of that right now. They'd somehow ended up wandering into the maze to follow the sighting of a scroll on an enemy, which is the entire reason why Lea's thinking of the last "war" he was in. He's keeping a cautious eye on Emma as they go, the entire thing Quiet... Too Quiet. ]

[we're doing this. we're playing dressup and then we're getting maimed.
anyway swift wind is here looking at the black clothing.]
Isn't there anything horse sized in here? I'm starting to feel left out!
ota - to battle;
[For anyone who wants to get to the battle but isn't sure about navigating the battlefield... the horse is here to be a noble steed! Also he's dressed like a ninja. Thanks Kaoru.]
What do you say? Shall we fight together?
ota - retreat;
[On the other hand, if you suddenly find yourself overwhelmed... well, Swift Wind is kind of wheezing a little, but he appears out of nowhere, rears back on his hind legs, and tramples all over the back of an enemy in front of you. Yikes.]
Hop on, we're getting out of here!

[ or he will..... maybe. ]
